Let me get something straight, I DON'T HATE FIRST GEN. But really, it wasn't that great.

All generations have their advantages and disadvantages. Really, I think nostalgia is the only reason why the first gen is praised so much.

Take a look at Flygon or Buizel, for example. I thought they were pretty creative.

With first gen, we have Voltorb, Electrode, Grimer, Muk, Mr. Mime, Seel, Dewgong, Goldeen... Just bleh.

Kanto did have some good Pokemon, though. Dragonite, Raichu, and Blastoise, to name some of my favorites.

The later generations have flaws, too. Gulpin, Swalot, Bronzor, and Bronzong, anyone?

Evolutions seemed too similar. All the starters don't look that different from their evolved forms in 1st gen, while and 3rd and 4th gen, I think they pulled it off well. They look similar that you could guess they were in the same evolution family, but they weren't terribly similar. Look at Mudkip, Turtwig, or Piplup, to give some examples. Not to mention Diglett and Magnemite's OH HEY NOW THERE'S THREE or Grimer and Voltorb's WE'RE BIGGER NOW WITH VERY LITTLE CHANGES.

Even the Pokedex was ugly. Take a look at the Kanto Pokedex. It has way too many buttons and overall doesn't look that convenient. Compared to the
Hoenn Pokedex or the Isshu Pokedex, well...

As for the regions themselves, a lot of the towns in Kanto were... same-ish. Hoenn was much more of a lush region with more variety. Each town had their own vibe and it felt like a new experience. A tree house town and a town built by a volcano? That's sure something Kanto didn't have.

To those that know me, I'm not being hypocritical. I've learned to like all generations instead of just following what everyone else's favorites were. lD

Again, this is all my opinion. Feel free to leave your own, but please, as I respect your opinion, please also respect mine and don't flame. I can understand you preferring it because you grew up with it, but sometimes it gets a little too far.

Oh, and as a random tidbit, this is coming from someone who has around the same amount of play time playing Red and Soul Silver or Platinum.

Eh, Voltorb and Electrode play the art of deception in the games which is kind of fun. I think if Voltorb was like a thin robotic body with a robotic Pokéball head that would of been kind of cool.

As for Grimer & Muk It would've been better if only one existed not that Muk is a bad design

it's just kind of pointless to have one that looks too similar. Come on now we should've had an pre evolution for Aerodactyl like Omastar and Kabutops did.

Things were not perfect but they still had more heart than they do now. I don't like most of the new ones because they don't look like they should share the same universe as the Gen 1 or even some Gen 2, but, sometimes you get hidden gems like Tirtouga and Braviary that have the looks of a Kantonian Pokémon.
